Westland Floating Parade 2009 theme ‘’Do Your Own Thing’’
The Westland Floating Parade is an annual unique and colourful event. At friday July 31st and Saturday and Sunday 1st and 2nd of August about 60 boats, decorated with flowers, pot plants, fruits and vegetables, will pass 70 kilometers through the several villages located in Westland, Midden-Delfland, Vlaardingen, Maassluis, Rijswijk, Den Haag en Delft.
The Westland Floating Parade is a fantastic summer event which has over 260.000 visitors yearly. Every parade day has its own route in the region.
With this year’s Westland Floating Parade theme is ‘’Do Your Own Thing’’, all of the boats will create their own theme, keeping the overall topic in mind. What makes the Floating Parade so special is that it entirely will be performed by volunteers. Together, about 400 skippers, musicians, background actors and creative arrangers make up the organisation. Everyone is eager to help creating an excellent region promotion.
And that is the eventual goal; showing what ‘het Westland’ has to offer from its greenhouses. These are splendid fresh products, grown in a healthy way. For such an event, there could be no time better than the summertime. The range of products is great this time of the year, the weather is lovely, and there are several sociable side activities such as music, catering, stables, but also well organized bicycle routes. This all together create a fantastic extraordinary summer event.
